I have a rule that any day I say out loud is going fine immediately stops going fine. So I collect bad day memes the way other people collect lucky pennies, as proof the curse hits everyone.

That pizza was ten minutes from dinner and now it’s dangling from a melted cutting board. I’ve done worse to a frozen pizza at 1 AM, so I’m not judging anybody below.

One star. Would perch again.

Finally, a bug you can actually see.
SaveThe kitchen is clearly where good intentions go to die, and I say that as someone who once set off a smoke alarm making toast. Most of these kitchen fails share the same crime: walking away for one minute. Syrup turns into a lava sculpture, cookies go full charcoal, and somebody pressure cooked the spoon along with the soup, which is technically a more complete meal.
What gets me more are the unlucky moments nobody could have planned for. You can’t prep for a komodo dragon in the bathroom or an earbud finding the one hole in a bus floor. Half of these funny fails are user error and half are the universe getting bored, and the person who signed a lease an hour before reading the warning notes somehow managed both.
I think we share these because a bad day feels lonely right up until you see a stranger’s ruined banana bread. Suddenly it’s a club. Nobody wants to be the one who forgot the flour, but everyone is relieved to learn they aren’t the only one, and that tiny relief is worth the price of somebody else’s oven.
The oven is off. The spoon is retired. The day is almost over.
I went straight to I Thought I Could Cook Until Cooking Memes Started Describing My Dinners after this, because apparently I enjoy being called out. Funny Fails Are What Happens When Close Enough Gets Signed Off covers the disasters that happen outside the kitchen. Read them before something in your house starts beeping.
