I once built a bookshelf so confidently that it now holds zero books and one small, quiet shame. So funny fails don’t feel like gloating to me, they feel like a support group, and this is our founding member.

Funny fails in baking: a lumpy cinnamon roll with googly eyes looking horrified on a counter.

Somebody’s mom wanted cute and got a pastry that has stared into the abyss, and honestly, same. Hold my hand, we’re going in.

Three framed officer portraits on an office wall, the middle face completely washed out by glare.

Witness protection, but make it official.

Funny fails at lunch: a burger built with bread inside two beef patties.
Washer and dryer doors swung open toward each other, blocking both machines at once.

Laundry day is now a standoff.

Funny fails on the road: a dented silver van with its back door tied shut.
Barcelona wax museum Star Wars display with Luke, Leia, Han Solo, R2-D2 and E.T.

E.T. took a wrong turn at Tatooine.

Old book page with the word Preface misprinted as Peeface, an arrow pointing at the typo.
Grocery store price sign advertising variety bowel salads instead of bowl salads, circled in white.

Fiber included.

Funny fails in ink: a fierce lion drawing beside the much sadder lion back tattoo.
A U-Haul moving truck tipped at an angle, stuck with its wheels off a curb.

Moving day, but sideways.

Funny fails at home: a wall TV with dozens of black cables sprawling everywhere.
Hamburger buns stuck together in an odd lopsided cluster in a grocery store crate.

Four buns, one shared personality.

Funny fails on the street: a crosswalk button sign installed completely upside down.
Melted white icing dripping from a baking sheet onto the oven floor beneath burnt pastries.
Funny fails in branding: a motorcycle tank lettered Kwikasfaki in Kawasaki-style red font.
Bootleg Power Rangers toy pack containing Batman, Spider-Man and Superman knockoff action figures.

Mystic Force is just whoever was left in the bin.

Funny fails: an officer wearing a gas mask strapped up on top of his head.
Student seated in a classroom whose hair bun and collar look like a face from behind.
An arched wall niche sitting empty right above where the fire extinguisher hangs.

Built the shelf. Ignored the assignment.

Grocery store Ninja Turtle cupcake cake with a lopsided face and a wonky blue mask.
Funny fails at school: a wall clock hung up while still sealed inside its box.

Time is still in the packaging.

Yellow road line painted in a wobbly swerve along a city street beside tram tracks.
Brick roundabout paving with its white circle laid crooked and left unfinished.

Roundish-about.

A stop sign with a scraggly tree sprouting from behind it like a bad haircut.
Funny fails at the hotel: a lamp outlet so close to the base nothing fits.
Handwritten bakery sign asking customers to use tongues instead of tongs to pick pastries.
Wi-Fi router antennas poking straight through a closed utility cabinet door.

The router wanted out.

Restaurant wall compass sign with its directions scrambled, west sitting where south belongs.
Funny fails in cake form: a lumpy Batman head cake with a flat beige jaw.

Gotham deserves better frosting.

Basketball court with the free throw line and key painted off-center from the hoop.

My favorite people here are the you had one job crowd, because every one of them got so close. A crosswalk button installed upside down. A wall clock hung up while still sealed in its box, which I respect, because some days I also want to stay in my packaging. Somebody finished those jobs, wiped their hands on their jeans, and went to lunch proud.

What scares me more is when a committee was involved, because that’s how you get design fails. Two washing machines whose doors block each other means at least three adults nodded in a meeting. I nod in meetings too. That’s how I ended up running a bake sale I was not qualified for, so I really can’t throw stones at these funny pictures.

I think we pass these around because a fail is proof that everyone is winging it, even people with clipboards and lanyards. Somewhere a man painted a basketball court with one confident wobble and then drove home to his family. He’s fine. The court is fine. And if he gets to be fine, maybe I do too, bookshelf and all.

Measure twice, cut once, and if it still goes sideways, post it for the rest of us.

If you’re still giggling, Epic Tattoo Fails Are What Happens When Confidence Shows Up and Spelling Calls in Sick is the same energy with a needle involved, and How Does a Space Bar Ruin an Entire Business? Graphic Design Fails Have the Answer will finish the job. Bring snacks and lowered standards.
