Is it Election Day, or has my phone just been acting like it was Election Day since August? It is officially the real one: Tuesday, November 3, the 2026 midterms, and the election day memes this year are less about any candidate and more about surviving the run-up with your sanity and your battery intact.

In case you have been hiding from the news, every one of the 435 House seats is on the ballot, along with 35 Senate seats and governor races in 36 states, according to CBS News’ rundown of what the U.S. is voting on this year. That is a lot of democracy, and every single race apparently has my number.
Election Memes Started With the Texts
The midterm memes started weeks ago, mostly as hostage notes from people being texted by 700 strangers. I have personally replied STOP to a campaign and then felt guilty, like I had been rude to a raccoon. Ohio, judging by that unread count, has it worse than all of us.

Did Anyone Actually Read the Ballot?
By this morning, the jokes moved from the inbox to the booth. Some people studied every race. Other people wrote something unrepeatable into every uncontested local contest, which I am not endorsing, but I am also not reporting.

A lot of the election memes skip the candidates entirely and go straight for the vibe, which is fair. The Simpsons and a puppy-versus-diarrhea poll explain American politics more calmly than any cable panel I watched this year.

The Real Election Day Winners Are the Stickers
Every year the funniest thing on the ballot is the sticker. A cat that voted and would now like a nap, a frog fairy in a tutu, and a Michigan design that answers the question before you ask it. I would vote twice for that frog, and I know I am not allowed to.

The library poster is a nice bit of timing, too. CBS counts more than 40 local data center measures on ballots this year, so one artist’s only approved data center being the public library is basically a voter guide.

Somebody Wake Up Steve
Tonight belongs to the map guys, and Steve Kornacki in particular has become a holiday mascot. People are leaving out milk and cookies for him like he comes down the chimney with exit polls. I relapse into refreshing results pages every two years, and I am not ready.

Canada, meanwhile, is watching us like a neighbor watching a guy launch fireworks out of his garage. Hard to argue. Some of today’s political memes target specific candidates and the president, which is how an American election day goes, and you can decide for yourself who got roasted fairly.

What Happens on November 4?

Tomorrow the ads stop, the texts stop, and that catcher spreads out in the dirt in pure relief. Some races won’t be called tonight, so pace yourself. And to the six unidentified numbers that texted me during work today: you did not sway my vote, but you were there for me, and that is more than I can say for my ex.

Confession: I wear my sticker until it dies in the dryer, so I’m not done either. Brady Rogers Campaign Signs Said Fine, I’ll Do It, and Voters Agreed is the most honest campaign I’ve ever seen, Fat Dogs of Delhi Memes Have Better Campaign Posters Than Most Elections makes a strong case for dogs in office, and Election Day Tweets: 30 Gems Capturing Yesterday’s Voting Chaos is a 2024 time capsule.
