Every Halloween I swear I’ll buy a real costume, and every Halloween I end up in a bedsheet cloak explaining my half-elf’s backstory to a neighbor who just wanted to hand out candy. That’s the beauty of DnD memes: they’re for people whose fantasy life has fully leaked into their real one. I now measure my energy in spell slots. Today I have two, and I’m spending one on this.

Plan B was always the boomstick.

Somebody's DM just moved to Mars.
SaveNothing has ever explained my life better than spell slots. Taking out the trash costs a slot, scrolling on my phone is a free cantrip, and suddenly I understand why my sink looks like an abandoned dungeon. Every list of dnd spells should come with a footnote for laundry. I’ve been short-resting on the couch since Tuesday.
Then there are the dungeon master memes, which are basically workplace complaints from an unpaid job with a lot of tiny skeletons. One player memorized every subclass and still plays like a raccoon in a kitchen, while the new guy who watched one show turns into a tactical genius. The best funny dnd stories start with somebody saying it’s what my character would do, and end with a dragon disagreeing.
I think we love this stuff because the table is the one place where being gloriously specific gets you applause instead of a weird look. Somebody draws a map, somebody else rolls a natural 20, and the impossible just happens. Real life doesn’t work that way, which is exactly why we keep showing up on Saturdays with snacks and a pencil we refuse to sharpen.
The dice are cursed. The candy is gone. The skeletons are on our side.
I went straight from these to In Defense of DnD Memes and the Terrible Characters We All Made at Fifteen, which was a mistake for my self-esteem, then recovered with 29 Nerd Memes for the Gloriously Uncool. Roll for initiative on the rest of your afternoon.
