Halloween is the only holiday that asks nothing of me, which is exactly why I love it and also why I do the bare minimum. No family dinner, no gift budget, just a bag of candy I will finish myself by the twenty-ninth. My one real tradition is scrolling funny halloween posts at midnight instead of carving anything. Strangers online are doing the actual spooky work for me: questioning skeleton logistics, roasting horror movie parents, and grieving craft stores. Grab a fun size something and scroll with me.

In the guest room, sitting at the desk, like a coworker.

Parallel parks better than me, too.

I'd hit every house twice in different hats.

He's been holding that pose since 1952 and nobody offered him a chair.

The ancient rituals have been updated for this year.

Imagine walking into work and someone 3D printed your desk badly.

He's been working nonstop since the Middle Ages. Feed the man.

Scariest costume on the block.

Sometimes the pumpkin picks the costume.

Branding so good it should be studied in hell.

No relatives, no gifts, just candy and vibes.

Rest in fleece.

Storage solutions we will never understand.

Most reliable source I've cited all year.

Every block has that one house, and we all need the photo.

Escapism, but with chainsaws.

Eighties parenting in one sentence.

Open bar, cursed DJ, I'm in.

Even serial killers need a creative outlet.

Approved by my inner child, denied by HR.

It escalated, but tastefully.

They were impressed, they just didn't show it.

Ogre versus candy, main event.

The candy tax is real and it is ruthless.

Every episode ended in a real estate scheme.

Fishing for compliments with a fog machine.

Method actor.

The Frankenstein argument finally got a sequel.

Costume budget zero, impact catastrophic.

Button eyes were just her love language.

I have watched Halloween more times than I have called my grandmother, and not once did I ask how Michael Myers learned to drive. The internet asked for me. Horror movies run on a logic that collapses the second a tired adult looks at it sideways, and the best halloween jokes for adults are just people finally saying it out loud. The parents on Elm Street deserve their own investigation, and I would watch that sequel.
My relationship with decorations is mostly guilt. Somebody on my street already has a twelve foot skeleton, and I have a single gourd that is slowly becoming soup. Spiders build those webs for free while we pay nine dollars for a worse version. Meanwhile every empty storefront becomes a Spirit Halloween like a hermit crab with a register, and none of the funny halloween quotes on my fridge are as unsettling as that business model.
The loudest theme, though, is grown adults wanting the holiday back. They want PTO for it. They want trick or treating with margaritas, and they want to dress as someone who still has hopes and dreams, which is the one costume I could never pull off. That is why these beat the funny halloween posts for facebook your aunt shares: they are less about ghosts and more about how badly we all want one night off.
Halloween is the one holiday built entirely on pretending, so of course it brings out our most honest jokes. Christmas wants you grateful and Thanksgiving wants you seated next to your uncle. October just hands you a mask and walks away. Under that cover, people admit they are exhausted, broke, scared of the news, and still weirdly thrilled about a plastic skeleton.
I think that is why I keep scrolling. Every post is a tiny confession from someone who also forgot to buy candy until the porch light was already on. It is comforting to know the whole internet is standing in the same dark kitchen, eating the Kit Kats meant for kids and hoping nobody rings the bell. I am one of them, and I have chocolate on my sleeve to prove it.
The candy is gone. The skeleton is huge. The spirit is strong.
If you still have candy left and time to kill, our archive has plenty more Halloween chaos. Start with the halloween tweets collection from last year, then wander into our gay Halloween memes for costumes that deserve trophies. The work memes threads are perfect for the November first hangover, and our bootleg costume compilations will make you feel better about your own outfit. Grab the last fun size bar. You earned it, technically.
