I still bring up the friend who forgot my birthday in 2019, so reading betrayal meme stories is basically my support group. Some of these people deserve a lawyer.

Betrayal meme tweet about a friend sending a bill for the poster's own baby shower.

A bill for your own baby shower is a bold opening move. It only gets more creative from here, and I took notes in case I ever need to be evil.

Tweet asking when people realized their supposed friend actually hated them all along.
Betrayal meme tweet about planning a friend's wedding, then being asked not to attend.
Tweet about a so-called bestie skipping the poster's wedding to do laundry.

Laundry waits for no wedding.

A scientist, clearly. Very thorough research.

That's not a friend, that's a pickpocket.

The wave and keep walking is elite restraint.

The laughing emojis are carrying a lot here.

The wedding betrayals hit me hardest, because I’m the friend who says yes to being a bridesmaid and then panics about the dress for six months. These people helped plan the whole thing and still got uninvited, or found out about it on Instagram like a stranger. That’s not a friendship breakup, that’s a press release. The fake friends in here have a gift for timing, always picking the graduation, the new job or the big day to say the quiet part out loud.

Then there’s the slow-burn toxic friendship, which is somehow worse. Celebrating someone’s wins to their face and trashing them to the group chat is a skill, like juggling knives. I read the one about moving to a whole new city for a friend who then told everyone you were stealing her life, and I had to put my phone down and drink some water. I would simply move again, but I’d leave a polite note.

What gets me is how many of these end with a laughing emoji. People survived the bill, the wig snatching and the surprise wedding, then came out the other side funny about it, which is the strongest revenge there is. It’s also a nudge to text the friends who actually showed up. They’re rarer than we think, and they deserve a little appreciation.

The guest list is shorter. The group chat is quieter. The laundry got done.

Still not done with people who should have known better? The Moment They Realized Their Husbands and Boyfriends Hated Them the Whole Time is the romantic sequel, and Funny Icks Prove That an Entire Relationship Can End Over a Pair of Socks covers the smaller crimes. Hydrate between chapters.
