Why is everyone suddenly posting a woman who rents out explosive mice for 30 rupees a game? Because the Switch 2 remake of Ocarina of Time showed off its new Bombchu Bowling Alley attendant, and Bombchu girl memes have been pouring out ever since. She kept the blue bob and gained a knit crop top, wrist cuffs and black nail polish. @ArcanaLegacy’s old-versus-new comparison sums up the mood, and I’m not proud of how fast I zoomed in on the nails.

She Has Lived Rent Free in Our Heads Since 1998
To be clear, nobody discovered her last week. In the 1998 N64 original she was a handful of chunky pink polygons leaning on a counter in Castle Town, and somehow that was enough to become a lifelong crush for a generation of kids who should have been doing homework. Back in April, long before anyone saw the new model, Infinity Train creator Owen Dennis was already crediting her with shaping a whole generation’s taste.

When Nintendo of America announced the remake, the requests got very specific. @JamesPopStar replied that he did not need gameplay or a release date, just one screenshot of her, and Nintendo could have whatever it wanted. Same, James. My wallet has never been easier to open, and I once paid extra for a phone case because it had a little cartoon frog on it.

The New Look Landed on October 14 and Split the Room
The redesign surfaced on October 14, when people who got their hands on the remake at Nintendo’s preview events started posting what they saw. @TickingGears shared the close-ups like a detective cracking a cold case, while Chris Higgins skipped every new feature to confirm the one thing that mattered: she’s still there.

Not everyone was celebrating. Some fans insisted the N64 version somehow looks better, a few called the new style a little puppet-like, and at least one asked whether she’d been nerfed, which is a bold question about a woman whose entire job is handing you bombs. Kotaku’s Ash Parrish, a longtime fan, felt the new version lacks the original’s expressive charm. I get it, because my childhood crushes worked best in blurry low resolution, where my imagination did most of the heavy lifting. The full Ocarina of Time remake launches November 5, so the rest of us have about two weeks to emotionally prepare.
The Comment Sections Proposed Marriage Within Minutes
Reddit skipped the debate and went straight to vows. The ‘wife’ comment arrived on schedule, followed immediately by a reply proving this crush has never cared about demographics.

Then the flirting got literary. Manic pixie dream Hylian is the best description of a side character I’ve read all year, and it took me an embarrassing amount of time to stop saying it out loud. Someone else reached for a How to Train Your Dragon 2 GIF, and one user took a single look at the black nails and decided they could fix her.

Bombchu Girl Memes Have Officially Entered the Fan Art Era
u/locke_zero called the next phase early, predicting a fresh wave of fan art any minute now. The artists were happy to oblige. Most of the drawings making the rounds stick with her N64 look, green eyes and all, which says plenty about which version still owns the room.

So I have to ask: which version gets your 30 rupees? The N64 original who made you feel things with roughly nine polygons, or the Switch 2 upgrade with the manicure? Be honest, because my answer is embarrassing either way.
Her fan club has a lot in common with Biddy Blas Memes Prove Star Wars Still Runs on Weird Little Guys, because background characters clearly run fandom now.
