I play a barbarian, mostly because nobody expects a barbarian to read. My whole strategy is waiting until somebody else solves the riddle, then hitting the door. That’s why DnD memes get me every time: they’re written by the people at the table who were paying attention, about people like me. It’s spooky season, so our dungeon master keeps pitching one-shots, and I keep asking if there’s a door.

We look like a movie poster and play like a blooper reel.

Healing Word, now with slightly more air.

The boss fight lasted one round. Sorry, DM.

It's in the name, people.

The DM will remember this. The character won't.

Every DM just felt a chill.

The wizard saved everyone a very different comic.

Three sessions of buildup, zero minutes of dungeon.

Finally, a scheduling fix that works.

I’ve come around on dungeon master memes, because I finally get that the DM is just a person improvising with a straight face. Half the time they don’t know the answer to their own puzzle either. They’re waiting for us to do something funny enough to count. I always assumed there was a plan. There was a mall map.
The player side of these tabletop rpg memes is where I live. The party ignores the dungeon for three sessions to chase local politics, somebody finds a legendary weapon and deletes the boss in one turn, and the bard heals the barbarian with roughly the power of a bike pump. That last one hurt my feelings, mainly because I was the barbarian. Also, a dnd one shot in October always ends up with more monsters than anybody voted for.
I think people share these because game night is the rare place grown adults get to be ridiculous on purpose. You spend all week being responsible, then on Saturday you’re a half-orc arguing about whether a wall counts as a door. Somebody draws a meme about it, and the whole table feels seen. That’s a pretty good deal for a bag of dice.
I still don’t know the answer to the riddle, but the wall is down.
