Hannah Fry is the smartest person ever thrown out of a castle by her own teammates, and I mean that with love. Thursday’s episode saw the mathematician banished as a Traitor, with fellow Traitors James Acaster and Maya Jama voting her out, and the Celebrity Traitors episode 5 memes have treated it like a heist movie where the safecracker gets left in the vault.
The cruel part is the timing. She was recruited right after surviving the murder shortlist, then spent a mission locked in a cage with the other two Traitors, then got outvoted by them at the round table. On her way out she said she had calculated every conceivable scenario except the one that actually unfolded, which is the most relatable thing a genius has ever said. Meanwhile Joe Lycett spent the evening openly begging the Traitors to recruit him, which is either a triple bluff or a man who has simply had enough of breakfast. @Wandoful nailed it by turning the plea into every job interview I have ever done. Recruit me. I will say anything.
Traitors Memes Love Ross Kemp
Ross Kemp survived the night’s near-murder and then described it as an awful experience, with the energy of a man reporting live from a war zone. “I love whatever is wrong with Ross,” wrote @dylan6roberts, and honestly that is the national mood. He hugs like he is confiscating you.
The fan theory is that Ross is no longer playing a game show. He is running an operation, and the rest of the cast just has not been briefed. Every banishment gets the Wolf of Wall Street treatment, and every night he waits on the stairs for the knock that never comes.
Miranda Found Her Gallop
The purest moment of the night belonged to Miranda Hart, who galloped through the castle like it was a pony club, with King Kenny joyfully trying to keep up. Plenty of viewers asked for the two of them to be legally inseparable.
Then came the twist: James and Maya passed over Joe and recruited Kenny, who fell to his knees in the turret when he realized who had been pulling the strings. He called the Faithfuls doomed and laughed like a cartoon villain. I would also be a terrible Traitor, but I would at least be a happy one.
Everyone Else, Briefly
Joanne McNally, a Faithful, nearly gave herself away when Ross called the near-murder awful and she chimed in that it was horrible, as if she had been there, then voted for Bash anyway. James Blunt, accused of odd voting, apparently arrives at challenges like a gym teacher with a megaphone.
And because no episode is complete without them, the costume department and the shower cam both reported for duty. Claudia Winkleman dressed for a June shoot like a Siberian winter, and one viewer begged the producers never to fire whoever keeps requesting the shower shots.
