Is it still a twist if the man told everyone he was a Traitor a week ago? Richard E. Grant was finally banished from The Celebrity Traitors on Thursday night, the Faithfuls cheered him out of the castle, and the Celebrity Traitors episode 3 memes were up before he reached the car. I’ll admit I was rooting for him to survive purely out of loyalty to chaos, which is not a strategy. It’s a personality flaw.

He went out in style. He revealed himself as “an unfaithful traitor,” then told the camera he had managed to checkmate himself, which he’s fairly sure has never been done. His fellow Traitors Maya Jama and James Acaster voted him out with almost everyone else, according to The Standard’s rundown of who was banished and murdered this week.

The fan consensus is that Richard won anyway. @RyanJL called him a genius for collecting his fee, heading straight home and still getting all the press, and I can’t find the hole in that math.
Was Richard’s Exit the Best Deal on Television?
Sharon Rooney’s round table reasoning deserves a plaque, because it was airtight: he said it out loud. Joanne McNally, meanwhile, had spent the vote insisting the confession was “such an obvious joke,” which aged like milk in a sauna.

Why Was Hannah Fry Handed an Abacus?
With one Traitor down, Maya and James chose to recruit instead of murder, and they picked mathematician Hannah Fry. The show then cut to her looking thoughtful next to an abacus, which is the most literal casting note I’ve ever seen. @scottygb nailed the production meeting that must have happened.

The recruitment letter is a joke on its own. In the space for why she should join, someone wrote “a professor,” which @wolfestyles described as two kids who need supervision. Then the Photoshop crowd showed up with a whole new girl group.

How Many Jameses Can One Castle Hold?
According to James Acaster, exactly one. He is campaigning to murder James Blunt partly because every time someone says “James,” he turns around and it’s for the other guy. It might be the pettiest motive in the history of the show, and I have never related to a Traitor more.

Did Anyone Ask to See James Blunt in the Shower?
Nobody asked, and we got it anyway. The episode showed Blunt in a plastic shower cap, scrubbing himself with a long-handled brush like a man restoring an antique tub. Earlier he’d mentioned that his children call him “Sir,” which honestly explains the posture.

The bathroom footage wasn’t limited to Blunt, either. Someone else got the full bubble bath treatment, and the internet’s only review was one word.

Blunt is still the funniest person reacting to Blunt. When a viewer posted that they simply didn’t want to hear James Blunt speak, he had a four-word answer ready.

Who Else Starred in the Celebrity Traitors Reactions?
Miranda Hart keeps sounding exactly like her sitcom character, and fans are treating it as the best news of the series. Myha’la had a rougher night: she was banished at the second round table and turned out to be Faithful, though at least everyone spelled her name right.

Jerry Hall took a lot of heat as a suspect, which led straight to a Tom and Jerry joke. Ross Kemp, for his part, approached a mission built around a battering ram with the energy of a man who loves knocking doors down, because he does.

Episode 4 airs tonight at 8pm on BBC One, and the Traitors still have someone to murder. Somewhere, Richard E. Grant is at home, checkmated and completely relaxed, watching everyone else try to work out who the Traitors are. Smartest man in the castle, and he isn’t even in it anymore.
