I have been asked to leave exactly one tabletop group, and I still say the dragon was asking for it. Here’s my confession about DnD memes: they’re not jokes, they’re incident reports, written by people who had to sit across from someone like me for five straight hours. I’m the reason the table has rules now. Consider this my community service, and please don’t tell my old DM where I live.

DnD memes comic where a friend just wants to hang out, then dives into a bin of dice.
Side by side maps comparing a cramped real medieval town to a tidy RPG town map.

Zoning laws were a later invention.

Gritty the mascot looming behind a hockey player, captioned as a bugbear rogue's sneak attack.

Stealth check: technically passed.

Pie chart of reasons a cleric won't heal you, including wanting you to suffer a bit.
DnD memes news clip about a family cat stopping a burglar, compared to a Tabaxi monk.
Half-orc cleric meme using a movie scene where a man is reminded he can't read.

Faith: high. Literacy: pending.

Winged demon with Dwayne Johnson's face edited on, labeled Dwayne the Vrock Johnson.
DnD memes joke that players skip asking and just roll a nat 20, staring tearfully.
Football play where the enemies run straight past the tanks to tackle the caster.

Rules lawyer, final form.

Interrogation movie scene where the party demands the name of a background NPC.
DnD memes tweet suggesting that the lady might prefer a portal to another dimension.

Every one of the best dungeon master memes is secretly a hostage video. The DM spends three weeks writing a tragic villain backstory, and the paladin just laughs, because he personally handled the heretics. I respect it. I once argued for twenty minutes that my bard could seduce a locked door, and the DM finally allowed it purely so the session could end.

Tabletop RPG memes also expose the great lie of the hobby, which is that anybody at the table has a plan. The plan is a fireball. The plan is always a fireball. And nat 20 memes are just players discovering they can bully reality with one lucky die, then staring at the DM like they’re owed an apology, and honestly, they usually are.

Under all the rules lawyering and the strategic crying, DnD is just grown adults agreeing to pretend together for a whole afternoon, which might be the most romantic thing people still do. Nobody gets paid. Somebody brought chips. Everybody lies about their perception roll. That’s friendship, and I miss it so much I’d even let the cleric heal me first.

Roll for initiative, and for the last time, stop touching my dice.
