On Election Day, Nicki Minaj posted “HAPPY ELECTION DAY!!!” over an AI image of Chucky in a hot pink suit, scrolling his phone in a pink penthouse with a “Vote Red” pin on his lapel. By that evening the man who created Chucky was in her replies, and the Nicki Minaj Chucky memes were off and running. I refreshed that thread like it was a playoff game, which is not how an adult with a job should spend election night.

To be fair to Nicki, Chucky was not a random pick. She has used the killer doll in posts and lyrics for years, to the point that plenty of fans connect him with her and the Barbz. The pink suit was basically a brand extension. The pin is where it got complicated.

Then the Man Who Made Chucky Logged On
Don Mancini wrote the story for 1988’s Child’s Play and has steered the franchise ever since, so he had standing. His first reply, posted from @RealDonMancini, came in all caps: “IMPOSTER. CHUCKY IS PART OF THE BLUE WAVE THAT WILL WASH AWAY ALL THE CORRUPTION.” As Entertainment Weekly’s report on the Chucky creator’s response to Nicki Minaj notes, it was only the first of several.

That second one might be my favorite post of the whole week. Five words, no punctuation, and the energy of a dad at a barbecue insisting he has never met his kid’s new friend. Then Mancini shared a photo of his own Chucky doll holding a Labubu and a scraggly blonde horror doll, with an I Voted sticker on his overalls. The caption listed Chucky’s actual politics, starting with “Chucky has a trans kid” and ending with a blue wave as blue as his eyes, plus one curse word for emphasis.

Has Anyone Checked the Chucky Lore Lately?
Horror fans had the receipts ready, because Chucky’s lore is not subtle. Seed of Chucky gave him a genderfluid kid back in 2004, and the Chucky TV series made a gay teenager its main character. @BrianParticelli posted the scene where Chucky tells Jake about his queer kid, and the last panel does all the work.

Other fans skipped the jokes and went straight to gratitude, which I respect, since I also have strong feelings about fictional people I will never meet. One fan account pointed to the show’s interracial queer love story between Jake and Devon and signed off with a very sincere, very capitalized thank you to Mancini.

The Nicki Minaj Chucky Feud Got a Celebrity Cameo
Then Devon Sawa showed up. Sawa has played several characters on the Chucky series and died more than once doing it, so when he asked who was going to tell her, it read like a man who has been killed by this doll professionally and will not let a stranger borrow it for a campaign.

My favorite fan take just named the absurdity out loud. A fictional serial killer doll is now shading one of the biggest rappers alive, and three crying emojis were the only correct response.

By Wednesday, Mancini had posted the same doll again with its hair dyed blue and a short note for Nicki: “Too bad, Nicki! No AI, by the way!” So the pink suit went back on the rack, the real doll got a makeover, and I went right back to refreshing a horror franchise’s politics like it was a playoff game. I am not proud of it, but I am caught up.
