I watch football the way some guys check their stocks: full of hope for about four minutes, then quietly furious. We’re far enough into the season that nobody can pretend anymore, and this week’s NFL memes are basically fans standing in a parking lot, pointing at the scoreboard and laughing so they don’t cry. I still have Halloween candy left, and it’s scored more than some offenses. Here’s the damage.

Same stat, wildly different vibes in the locker room.

That extra hour of sleep came with a price.
SaveNothing unites a fan base like a team that refuses to score. The Chargers and Vikings somehow share an offensive touchdown count with opposite records, and the Chiefs put up a stat line that looked like my fantasy football memes folder come to life. I drafted that team on my phone at a wedding, so I know bad offense when I see it. It’s the great equalizer, and football memes are where we file the paperwork.
Then there’s the fan stuff, which is my favorite because it’s just regular people losing their minds in public. Somebody slapped an Eagles sticker next to a license plate the DMV should have flagged, and NFL Twitter treated a Thursday night game with an ambulance and a sausage race like a wrestling pay-per-view. I’d watch that every week. I’d pay extra for it.
Losing seasons are where the best football jokes come from, because winning fans just post the score and go to bed. When your team is winless in November, all you’ve got is your buddies and a sense of humor, and honestly, that’s a pretty good deal. The teams will be fine. The fans are already having more fun than the players.
Somewhere a kicker is practicing alone in an empty parking lot, and I respect him.
