I’ve been a football fan my whole life, and somewhere around October I stop watching the games and start watching the reactions. The tape doesn’t lie, but the group chat lies better, and NFL memes are where the real scouting report lives. Every fan base had at least one moment early this month they would like to forget. Too bad, man, it’s all here.

NFL memes start with Andy Dalton's Eagles stat line: zero completions, zero yards, one interception.

One pass. One interception. A perfect 100 percent rate of something.

Fan edit comparing Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. to a Ferengi from Star Trek.
Dak Prescott at a press conference quoting a joke about his wristband getting picked off.
NFL memes use Anakin and Padme to ask why nobody spiked the ball in overtime.

The spike is the easiest play in football. Allegedly.

Falcons tweets announcing Tua Tagovailoa at quarterback, then a 30-23 loss to the Ravens.
Bears head coach walks off after a 31-7 loss, captioned how I ended up here.
NFL memes show SpongeBob refusing to try a game-winning field goal for the Commanders.
List of wins at SoFi Stadium where every team and country beats the Chargers' zero.

Great venue. Lovely seats. Visiting teams highly recommend it.

NFL memes contrast the Vikings granting wishes with the Bills rudely refusing Josh Allen's request.
Broncos logo on a kid in a car while mom asks why it can't be normal.
Seahawks official excuse form listing reasons fans think the team lost to the 49ers.

Circle all that apply, then circle them again next week.

NFL memes fake alert claiming Marvin Harrison Jr. was traded to the Dodgers baseball team.
Mr. Incredible meme about dreading, then loving, three straight Falcons primetime games.
Commanders and Giants tied in overtime as Jayden Daniels watches the clock hit zero.

Time is a flat circle, and it does not stop for anyone.

NFL memes show the Giants offering the win and Jayden Daniels tossing it back.
SpongeBob meme of the stacked Rams roster scaring everyone except the unbothered NFL.
Parody tweet styled after Tua Tagovailoa agreeing that the haters were right about him.

Self-scouting at its finest.

NFL memes Simpsons scene of Moe kicking the Giants, Eagles, Commanders and Cowboys out.
Tom and Jerry meme of the Cowboys laughing at a winless Bucs team, then limping injured.

Never laugh at the winless team. They remember.

NFL memes borrow The Office as the Bears threaten to cancel the Packers' holidays.
Masked burglar stops to watch Bills vs. Rams on Monday Night Football beside two kids.
Judge show man with a stunned stare, compared to Jim Harbaugh after Justin Herbert turnovers.

Every Chargers fan's face, too.

NFL memes end with Aaron Glenn waving a red challenge flag on a rainy sideline.

Clock management is apparently optional now, and I say that as a guy who can’t microwave a burrito without burning half of it. The Commanders sat in field goal range in overtime with seconds left and let the clock run out, which handed the internet football memes on a silver platter. Nobody in that building should be allowed near a stopwatch.

The best part of any season is NFL trash talk between fan bases who are all, technically, losing. The Cowboys laughed at a winless team and limped away a week later, the Chargers still can’t win in their own stadium, and Falcons fans went from dreading primetime to loving it in three weeks. I root for a team that breaks my heart every January, so I’m not throwing stones, I’m just saying the sports memes write themselves.

Football is three hours of commercials, a few great plays and a lot of grown adults yelling at a television, and memes are how we survive the bad weeks. Your team lost? Somebody made a SpongeBob about it within the hour, and somehow that helps. It’s group therapy with worse grammar, and I wouldn’t trade it.

The clock is running. The kicker is warming up. Nobody calls timeout.
