Every time I see a house hanging off a cliff, I decide I’m about to become a completely different woman, the kind who journals, owns one perfect chair and never answers texts. Then I go home to my apartment, where the closet door hits the bed. I’ve been saving amazing architecture like it’s a vision board, and these have me pricing out islands I can’t pronounce.

Imagine the view. Now imagine carrying groceries up there.

The mid century modern homes are where I lose all self-control. Glass walls, a curvy pool and a view of an entire city you never have to talk to? That’s not a house, that’s a personality I’d like to buy outright. One of them played a villain’s hideout in an old thriller, and honestly, that tracks, because I’d also turn evil with a cantilever.
I’ll defend brutalist architecture to anyone, mostly because I also look intimidating and am secretly soft inside. Concrete windows that pop out like drawers, a curved housing block that looks like a stadium for introverts, I’m into all of it. My dream house fantasy peaks with the meme comparing a professor’s gray cube to a 500-year-old stone cottage, because the cottage wins and we all know it.
I think we pass these around because a building is the one daydream that feels almost reachable. You can’t become a new person overnight, but you can picture yourself in that library by the sea and assume that version of you is calm, wears linen and has never eaten cereal over the sink. I have. Probably tonight.
My lease is up in March, and I have never been more dangerous.
