I used to roll my eyes at wholesome posts, and then one told me to drink some water and I said thank you out loud, to my phone, in a Kroger parking lot.

That little driver has more peace than I’ve had since 2019. Here’s the rest of the pep talk, and I promise not one of them will make you journal.

My favorite healing quotes are the ones that come from a tired cartoon animal, because those are the only ones I trust. A frog staring at a sunset and saying “Man.” is the most honest thing anybody has said about a Tuesday. When a person tells me bad days are part of a good life, I want to fuss. When Totoro says it, I’m crying into my sleeve.

Then you’ve got the self care memes that read like my mama wrote them on a napkin: talk a little nicer to yourself, some things are out of your control. I have ignored that advice through two kids and one very bad perm. But the motivational quotes that land hardest here aren’t the loud ones. They’re the quiet ones admitting it’s slow, like a kitten in a scarf who plans to be proud of himself later.

I think we pass these around because nobody’s healing fits on a calendar. You don’t get a certificate. You just notice one day that the thing which used to wreck your whole afternoon now only ruins about twenty minutes, and you go get a snack to celebrate. That’s growth, sugar, and snacks are part of the process.

Drink some water, talk nice to yourself, and leave the rest for a random Tuesday.
