My uncle once told me I had the posture of a wet question mark, and I’ve been chasing that level of craftsmanship ever since. Funny insults are the only time getting destroyed feels like a gift.

Grandma never needed a comeback, the internet built one for her. It’s spooky season, and nothing out there is scarier than a stranger with a keyboard and perfect timing.

Funny insults about superheroes: Thor versus Batman, framed as a guy with a sore throat.

Still a better costume than mine.

What gets me is the craftsmanship. Somebody looked at Batman, the most expensive man in fiction, and boiled him down to a guy with a sore throat in a Halloween costume, for free, on a Tuesday. These savage comebacks come from people with day jobs, and I think about that more than I should. I have never once been that efficient at anything.

I’m also a sucker for funny comments that go after logic instead of looks. Asking a stranger if they were homeschooled by a pigeon is somehow gentler and more devastating than most roast memes, because it’s technically a real question. I’d answer it honestly. I’d need a minute and maybe a snack, though.

Here’s my theory: a perfect insult is a weird little act of love, almost a compliment, for language. Nobody spends that long polishing a sentence for someone they never noticed. It’s like the guy at the barbecue who roasts your shorts, then hands you the best burger off the grill. Getting cooked this well means you were seen, and honestly, I’ll take it.

Be nice out there, unless you’ve got one this good.
