I come from a big Midwestern family, so I learned early that when the world gets weird, you don’t fix it, you make fun of it at the kitchen table. Wacky memes are the modern kitchen table. Gas prices are wild, groceries cost a car payment, and somebody wants to put ads in the middle of a video game boss fight. I can’t do a thing about any of it, but I can laugh, and so can you.

The money ones hurt in a way I find comforting. I bought eggs, bread, and milk last week, and the screen showed a number I once paid for a bridesmaid dress. These relatable memes get it, especially the gas station sign asking whether you’d like to pay with cash or organs, which honestly felt like a fair question at my last fill up. My dad bought a house with a summer job, and I need a credit check for a sandwich.

Then there’s technology, which has gotten so ambitious it forgot to be useful. Ads popping up in the middle of a boss fight is the kind of idea that makes me want to go back to a flip phone and a landline. That’s where funny memes do their best work, taking whatever a tech company announces with a straight face and treating it like the punchline it obviously is. I’m also still not over the piracy warning where the victims turn out to be guys in top hats drinking champagne.

And the personal stuff is just me, every day, in meme form. Setting two alarms, one for the person I want to be and one for the person I am, describes my entire relationship with mornings. I lost a friend to half marathon training once, and she still texts me her split times like I asked. These random memes are basically a support group for people who would rather stay home, and I respect that deeply.

A pile of totally unrelated jokes makes perfect sense to me, because the world has started to feel like a pile of totally unrelated jokes. One minute it’s the news, the next it’s a cat having an identity crisis somewhere between January and September, and somehow both are equally true. Memes are the only thing that can keep up with the pace, which is more than I can say for my phone battery.

Underneath all of it, though, there’s something kind of sweet. Every one of these was made by somebody who looked at something annoying, scary, or expensive and decided to make a stranger laugh about it instead of just stewing. That’s what my family did around the kitchen table, and it’s what we’re all still doing now, just with more screenshots and a lot less casserole.

Gas is up. Sleep is down. The memes are holding steady.

If you need a little more, our adulting memes are there for everyone tired of being grown, and the relatable memes archive somehow knows exactly what you did last Tuesday. We’ve also got a pile of Gen Z memes about youthful dystopia, plus a classic meme dump for lazy Saturdays. Pour yourself something warm. The news can wait ten minutes.

Who needs to see this?

Send it to the friend who’ll laugh the hardest, or post it for everyone.
