Is it Election Day, or has my phone just been acting like it was Election Day since August? It is officially the real one: Tuesday, November 3, the 2026 midterms, and the election day memes this year are less about any candidate and more about surviving the run-up with your sanity and your battery intact.

Election day memes start with a tweet asking for 4,000 more political ads before deciding.

In case you have been hiding from the news, every one of the 435 House seats is on the ballot, along with 35 Senate seats and governor races in 36 states, according to CBS News’ rundown of what the U.S. is voting on this year. That is a lot of democracy, and every single race apparently has my number.

Election Memes Started With the Texts

The midterm memes started weeks ago, mostly as hostage notes from people being texted by 700 strangers. I have personally replied STOP to a campaign and then felt guilty, like I had been rude to a raccoon. Ohio, judging by that unread count, has it worse than all of us.

Tweet says this year's political ads are making the poster miss Liberty Biberty.

Sarcastic tweet wishes 700 random numbers would text and say who to vote for.

Election day memes include a tweet about six texts from unknown numbers swaying a vote.

Did Anyone Actually Read the Ballot?

By this morning, the jokes moved from the inbox to the booth. Some people studied every race. Other people wrote something unrepeatable into every uncontested local contest, which I am not endorsing, but I am also not reporting.

Man stands before American flags under a caption about joke write-ins on uncontested local races.

Bored woman reaction captioned me anytime a politician speaks: I wasn't listening but I disagree.

Venn diagram in election day memes puts us between The Matrix, Idiocracy and The Terminator.

A lot of the election memes skip the candidates entirely and go straight for the vibe, which is fair. The Simpsons and a puppy-versus-diarrhea poll explain American politics more calmly than any cable panel I watched this year.

Simpsons bar scene where an election tosses out ineffective government, which walks right back in.

Election day memes show a mock poll of Everyone Gets a Puppy versus Diarrhea Forever, 50.1 to 49.9.

Gas station price sign reads JST WALK under the caption new gas price just dropped.

The Real Election Day Winners Are the Stickers

Every year the funniest thing on the ballot is the sticker. A cat that voted and would now like a nap, a frog fairy in a tutu, and a Michigan design that answers the question before you ask it. I would vote twice for that frog, and I know I am not allowed to.

Crayon I Voted sticker design shows a sleepy cat and flag saying now let me sleep.

Election day memes include an I Voted sticker of a frog fairy in a pink tutu.

Michigan themed sticker reads no, yeah, I voted, surrounded by state icons like the Mackinac Bridge.

The library poster is a nice bit of timing, too. CBS counts more than 40 local data center measures on ballots this year, so one artist’s only approved data center being the public library is basically a voter guide.

Poster says the only data center I support is the public library, with a cat.

Somebody Wake Up Steve

Tonight belongs to the map guys, and Steve Kornacki in particular has become a holiday mascot. People are leaving out milk and cookies for him like he comes down the chimney with exit polls. I relapse into refreshing results pages every two years, and I am not ready.

Election day memes joke about leaving milk and cookies out for map analyst Steve Kornacki.

Tweet about relapsing into polls pairs Steve Kornacki with a we're really in it now scene.

Tweet suggests impulse buying a 14 pound serrano ham to cope with midterm stress.

Canada, meanwhile, is watching us like a neighbor watching a guy launch fireworks out of his garage. Hard to argue. Some of today’s political memes target specific candidates and the president, which is how an American election day goes, and you can decide for yourself who got roasted fairly.

Canadian tweet compares following US midterm coverage to checking on a friend's terrible boyfriend.

Election day memes include Canadians watching like a drunk neighbor launching garage fireworks.

Where's Waldo parody asks where in the world is James Talarico, with his face edited in.

Roll Safe meme under a reply joking about skipping ID if you get pulled over on Election Day.

What Happens on November 4?

Election day memes include a tweet mocking a presidential post comparing his face with Elvis.

Tomorrow the ads stop, the texts stop, and that catcher spreads out in the dirt in pure relief. Some races won’t be called tonight, so pace yourself. And to the six unidentified numbers that texted me during work today: you did not sway my vote, but you were there for me, and that is more than I can say for my ex.

Catcher lies spread out in the dirt, waking up November 4 with no more political ads.

Confession: I wear my sticker until it dies in the dryer, so I’m not done either.
