I think every town has one spot that loaded wrong, like the universe ran out of budget halfway through. If an empty hallway has ever made your neck itch, you already know liminal spaces personally.

That is not a location, that is a final boss. The rest of these places are real, mostly, and I have decided not to visit any of them alone this close to Halloween.

The soda machine has seen things.

Turns out you can't go back. It's a private road.

Same city, now with the volume turned off.

Dad jokes travel internationally with no visa.

Finally, an event I'm qualified for.

Officer, I swear those were for school.

Next exit: fish.

Cardio with a view of where you'd land.
My favorite weird places are the ones that are technically fine but spiritually unsupervised. Nothing bad is happening, which is somehow the worst part, because my brain keeps waiting for the bad thing to walk in and introduce itself. A highway rest stop floating in the middle of the ocean is a brilliant idea right up until I picture the vending machine humming at 2 AM with nobody around to hear it.
Then there are the weird photos that only turn creepy because of the caption. A castle on a foggy hill is just a nice castle until someone calls it their place for girls night, and suddenly I am worried about the girls. Most creepy places in my life have been office parks on a Sunday. I once sat in one for ten minutes, convinced I had slipped into the backup copy of reality, and I still check for it.
I think we pass these around for the same reason kids dare each other to touch the fence of the haunted house. It is a safe little scare. You look at a strange place that feels like a half-remembered dream, your stomach does a small flip, and then you are back on the couch with the lights on and snacks within reach. Lost, without leaving home.
Somewhere out there, that empty diner is still waiting for us to order.
When You Want Creepy Without A Jump Scare We’ve Got Creepy Liminal Spaces is the natural next stop if your neck is still tingling, and Weird Photos I Would Absolutely Airdrop To Unsuspecting Strangers can handle the rest of your evening. Bring a flashlight, just in case.

The Prague metro escalators are the only place where taking the stairs down feels like a leap of faith. One wrong step and you’re clipping straight into the source code of 1998.
