I’ve been a football fan my whole life, and somewhere around October I stop watching the games and start watching the reactions. The tape doesn’t lie, but the group chat lies better, and NFL memes are where the real scouting report lives. Every fan base had at least one moment early this month they would like to forget. Too bad, man, it’s all here.

One pass. One interception. A perfect 100 percent rate of something.

The spike is the easiest play in football. Allegedly.

Great venue. Lovely seats. Visiting teams highly recommend it.

Circle all that apply, then circle them again next week.

Time is a flat circle, and it does not stop for anyone.

Self-scouting at its finest.

Never laugh at the winless team. They remember.

Every Chargers fan's face, too.

Clock management is apparently optional now, and I say that as a guy who can’t microwave a burrito without burning half of it. The Commanders sat in field goal range in overtime with seconds left and let the clock run out, which handed the internet football memes on a silver platter. Nobody in that building should be allowed near a stopwatch.
The best part of any season is NFL trash talk between fan bases who are all, technically, losing. The Cowboys laughed at a winless team and limped away a week later, the Chargers still can’t win in their own stadium, and Falcons fans went from dreading primetime to loving it in three weeks. I root for a team that breaks my heart every January, so I’m not throwing stones, I’m just saying the sports memes write themselves.
Football is three hours of commercials, a few great plays and a lot of grown adults yelling at a television, and memes are how we survive the bad weeks. Your team lost? Somebody made a SpongeBob about it within the hour, and somehow that helps. It’s group therapy with worse grammar, and I wouldn’t trade it.
The clock is running. The kicker is warming up. Nobody calls timeout.
