Confession: I spent most of middle school sorting everyone I met into Hogwarts houses, including my orthodontist, who was a Slytherin and knew it. So when Malfoid memes took over my feed last week, I felt personally summoned. The internet turned Draco Malfoy into an anime girl, kept every ounce of the attitude, and somehow got the whole fandom yelling again.

So What Is Malfoid, Exactly?
Malfoid is a gender-swapped, anime-style version of Draco: same platinum hair, same green-and-silver robes, same habit of saying “Potter” like it tastes bad. The female Draco Malfoy idea is not new, since X artist @grizz056 posted an “If Malfoy was a girl” drawing back in March 2024. The current wave started on September 22, when @redteneri posted Malfoid mocking Harry and pulled in more than 89,000 likes, and within a week artists everywhere were drawing their own.

The name is the one awkward part. It mashes Malfoy together with “foid,” an ugly word for women that came out of incel forums, and IBTimes’ look at the Malfoid fan art trend notes that most fans seem to treat it as a pun rather than a statement. Plenty of people just say fem Malfoy instead, which I fully support.
The Bullying Is the Whole Personality
What made Malfoid stick is that she is a tsundere, the anime type who is rude to the exact person she cannot stop thinking about. Draco already spent seven books following Harry around, picking fights and bringing him up in every conversation, so the internet barely had to change anything. Artists just added a blush and a louder sneer. Then Hermione showed up on Harry’s other side, Reddit started calling the whole character Draconia Malfoid, and poor Harry looks like he would rather go back to fighting a dragon.

The Malfoid Memes Everyone Else Is Making
The funniest ones have moved past the drawings and into the commentary. People are arguing that a bratty genderbent wizard is doing more for the fandom than the HBO show, relitigating which characters Rowling should have written as love interests, and comparing this moment to every other time the books got a surprise update from the fans.

I respect a fandom that can still pick a fight about books that ended almost twenty years ago. My own house sorting arguments peaked in a group chat, and I lost most of them.
Did Malfoid Really Clear Out Walmart?
My favorite piece of evidence is a photo of a Walmart Harry Potter shelf with Gryffindor, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff robes fully stocked and a very suspicious gap where Slytherin should be. “Probably nothing,” the poster wrote. Sure. Meanwhile, the gamers have already started asking for Malfoid in Hogwarts Legacy, because no fan trend is official until someone wants it in a video game.

I cannot tell you whether Malfoid sticks around past October or fades like every other fandom fever. I can tell you that if she ever shows up in a dentist’s waiting room, my orthodontist already knows which table she is sitting at.
