Every computer I touched for a decade had the same green hill and blue sky on the screen, and I never once went outside to find a real one. That was Windows XP, which hit store shelves 25 years ago this weekend, and these classic memes come from the same era of my brain. If you’re new, this is a daily trip through the old stuff, and Saturday’s batch is one click back. Double-click to begin.

Somebody propping a phone on a sleeping cat is the most efficient thing I have seen since that green hill desktop, and I respect it deeply. The kid who saw 11:11 on the microwave is also my entire financial plan, and so far the microwave has not come through for me once. These old memes come from back when the internet was mostly weird pictures and nobody had a brand, which is why the best memes still feel like inside jokes. I miss that version of us, dial-up noise and all.

Another stack of vintage memes and viral tweets lands tomorrow afternoon to get you through the first long stretch of Monday. Until then, Saturday’s meme dump is a good warm-up, and the iPod edition from Friday will have you humming songs you haven’t thought about since 2004. If any of these got a laugh, share the post with whoever used to hog the family computer. They owe you about a thousand hours of computer time, plus whatever they did to the family hard drive with all those downloads.
