I once left a chocolate bar on a black car seat in July and came back to soup, so I fully understand that dark things get hot in the sun. That is where my sympathy ends. At a Texas rally on Tuesday, Donald Trump told the crowd that solar panels “kill all the animals,” because the animals jump on them and they fry, and the trump solar panel memes started before he had even moved on to the next topic.
The line spread through Aaron Rupar’s clip of the solar panel remarks, posted from a rally where Trump was campaigning for Ken Paxton in his Senate race against James Talarico. Solar farms do have real wildlife debates, mostly about habitat and birds, but a raccoon hopping onto your neighbor’s roof is not getting cooked like a quesadilla.

Constitutional Remedies
The fastest joke of the night was also the driest. @Logically_JC did not name which amendment he meant, he just trusted everyone to do the math, and everyone did.

Trump Solar Panels, Peer Reviewed
The best image reply came from @manibhaii16, who said the perfect meme already existed and then proved it with a movie still about a leader getting his science from cartoons. Climate scientist Michael E. Mann weighed in too, with a diagnosis that sounded like a tech support ticket.

Cats in Rubber Boots
My favorite branch imagined the actual animals living with this new danger. @Corey296429 decided the stray cats in his neighborhood must be wearing rubber boots, and now I cannot stop picturing a tabby in tiny galoshes tiptoeing across a roof like it is a crime scene.

Boston Globe columnist Scot Lehigh went for the callback, tying the fried animals back to the 2024 debate claim about pets in Springfield, Ohio. It is a long way to walk for a joke, and he made it in one sentence.

Some Skipped the Jokes
Not everybody bothered with a punchline. A lot of the replies were just people staring at the clip and typing out a long, tired sigh, which I relate to, because that is also how I read my own bank statement.

So that is where we are: rubber boots for the cats, a constitutional homework assignment, and solar panels officially treated like stovetops. I am going back to my car to see if that chocolate bar ever recovered.
