Twenty-five years ago today, Apple showed off the first iPod, a white brick that promised 1,000 songs in your pocket. I used mine to play the same nine songs until the click wheel gave up. These classic memes work the same way, a daily dig through the stuff that never left our heads, picking up where yesterday’s trip through the classics left off. Press play.

Somewhere in a drawer there is still an iPod with a playlist called Pump Up Jams, and I will not be taking any questions about what was on it, ever. That is the whole appeal of old memes: they stay exactly where you left them, like Tony Hawk getting told he was fake by a rental car guy, or a kiwi guarding an entire air force. The best memes never needed a software update, and these vintage memes still load faster than my first click wheel ever did.

Another round of classics lands tomorrow afternoon, right around the time I start pretending I have weekend plans. Until then, Thursday’s meme dump is the fresher option if you want something that came out this decade, and the Furby edition of our classic memes is still sitting in the archive for anyone who wants to be haunted again. If one of these unlocked a memory, send it to the friend who was there for it, the one who still owes you a burned CD, using the share buttons below.
