Is this actually happening? It is. The Milwaukee Brewers beat the Dodgers 6-2 at Dodger Stadium on Wednesday night, and the Brewers Dodgers memes showed up faster than my excuses for picking Los Angeles in a group chat I have since muted for my own safety. Milwaukee now leads the NLCS 3-0 and sits one win from its first World Series since 1982.

The trash talk started before the first pitch. Fox’s pregame desk of Alex Rodriguez, David Ortiz and Derek Jeter all took the Dodgers on the Game 3 graphic, and @JustHxnter pointed out that the crew had now picked against Milwaukee seven games running. Jackson Chourio answered by hitting the first pitch of the game from Blake Snell over the wall, which is the baseball version of leaving someone on read.

Eleven Pitches Later
The game turned in the seventh. Jake Bauers fouled off pitch after pitch from Snell, turned the 11th into a go-ahead two-run homer, and Garrett Mitchell went deep right behind him. MLB.com’s recap of the Brewers’ NLCS Game 3 win has the full sequence, but my takeaway is simpler: I can’t finish an 11-question online quiz without opening a new tab, and Bauers did that with a full stadium yelling at him.

Those two are aimed squarely at Milwaukee’s reputation as a scrappy, singles-and-hustle lineup. Two swings in one inning and the crowd that spent all week saying they can’t hit for power had to quietly log off. Down in the home dugout, things got very still.

Everybody Loves an Upset
By the late innings, half the country seemed to be pulling for Milwaukee, mostly out of a deep, unhealed need to watch Los Angeles lose something. @knbrmurph spoke for every fan base the Dodgers have ever bounced, and one meteorologist noticed the TV call sounded less like a broadcast and more like a wake.

A Brewers Memes Victory Lap
Once it ended, the gloating had a distinctly Midwestern flavor: polite, thorough and absolutely not letting it go. Bob Nightengale put the stakes plainly, @Wisconsin_fam caught the national media mood in one sideways glance, and Front Row Amy used more exclamation points than any punctuation guide allows.

My favorite detail of the night belongs to Stu Bauers, Jake’s dad, who sat in section 106 wearing his son’s Rake Bauers shirt. According to @CyrtHogg, he has worn it for four straight Brewers wins and it has not been washed. I have never been more on a dad’s side in my life.

Game 4 is Thursday night at 8 p.m. Eastern on FS1, and here is my forecast: the Fox desk picks the Dodgers again, the shirt stays dirty, and if Milwaukee closes it out in Los Angeles, the Brewers Dodgers memes get a whole lot meaner by Friday morning.
