I have never once followed instructions correctly, and I include shampoo in that. My dad could build a grill from a picture of a grill, and I can’t fold a fitted sheet with a video and a coach. So for me, instructions unclear is less of a meme and more of a medical history. These made me feel a lot better about the bookshelf leaning in my living room.

Technically, it is a sheep.

Step four is where they lost me.

Saved a fortune on lumber.

Legally, this checks out.

My hair would simply unionize.

Absolutely no notes.

Still can't draw it, still want to eat it.

Nailed it on the first egg.

Step two is carrying the whole team.
The drawing tutorials are my favorite, because they all start out so kind. Step one is an egg, step two is another egg, and step three is apparently a museum painting of a seagull. Somewhere between the circle and the finished picture, the artist left the room and came back a different, much better person. These how to draw memes are the most honest thing online about how learning anything actually feels.
Then there are the instructions that are technically correct, which are somehow worse. Telling a lady to print it out and put it on the wall is a perfect answer, and I still felt insulted on her behalf. It is the draw the rest of the owl problem, and it follows me everywhere, from tax forms to sourdough. Tutorial memes just say out loud what the manual was too polite to admit.
I think we love these because everybody has been the person squinting at step two, wondering what happened between the picture of the parts and the picture of the finished table. Nobody is good at anything at first. Some of us are just honest enough to leave three screws on the floor and call it a design choice.
Step one: laugh. Step two: share. Step three: nobody knows.
I went straight from these to 28 Hilarious Drawing Memes For Every Struggling Artist, which felt like group therapy, and then to 35 DIY Fails That Scream DI Why Did You Do That, which felt more like a mirror. Bring a level, you will need it.
