I get all my shower thoughts in the shower, which is the only place left where I am not holding a screen. That is the whole mechanism. Remove the phone, add warm water, and a brain that has been quiet for eleven years suddenly wants to take apart a word you have used since you were four. I have stood there, dripping, genuinely unsettled by a sentence I made up myself. Nobody prepares you for being ambushed by your own mind.

The number is safe for eons and somehow that is unsettling.

One of them checked a mirror and one of them checked four.

Great, now the whole hand needs a recount.

Every person who has ever had a job just nodded once.

Genuinely the worst thing I have read all week.

From the crab's angle, we are the strange ones.

A genuine reason to be grateful for pigeon sizing.

Somebody in a pyramid was already missing the old days.

This is a real invention and somebody should be paid.

Cyclops creature lit in orange beside a shower thought about a cyclops having poor depth perception

That explains the whole cave situation.

An unwelcome but medically reasonable point.

Carpentry advice with a much wider application.

Frowning office manager beside a shower thought about whether a failed push up still counts

I have thought about nothing else since.

The asymmetry has always been the point.

There is no middle setting and there never was.

Man yelling in shock beside a shower thought about how much a lost phone now takes with it

Wallet, keys, camera, map, memory, all in one small rectangle.

Paperwork does not care about the order things happened.

Young man lifting his glasses beside a shower thought about what being smart actually means

A gentle correction aimed at somebody specific.

I have been staring at this one for ten minutes.

A lot of pressure to hand somebody at breakfast.

The language has a hole in it and nobody fixed it.

Woman reacting in surprise beside a shower thought about bed room versus bedroom space

The words are fighting each other and the words are right.

Woman throwing her hands up beside a shower thought about why finished buildings are called buildings

Nobody has renamed them and nobody is going to.

Technically a correction and emotionally an attack.

Woman looking unimpressed beside a shower thought that the word nothing is actually something

The word exists, therefore the word is something.

The deep shower thoughts that actually get me are the ones about language, because language turns out to be held together with tape. We call them buildings after they are finished being built. Nothing is on fire, fire is on things. You can pet a pet and plant a plant, but you cannot human a human, and now I am annoyed about a grammar rule nobody ever wrote down.

A few of these quietly open a trapdoor under your feet, and those are the funny random thoughts I cannot shake. Ancient Egypt had its own ancient Egypt, which means somebody in a pyramid was already nostalgic about the good old days. Time zones mean you can die four hours before a friend and be recorded as dying a day later. I did not need either of those facts. I now carry both of them everywhere.

My favorite overthinking memes are the ones that end in a demand. Somebody worked out that disposable chopsticks should come with a toothpick built into the seam, and honestly, why do they not. Somebody else asked whether a failed push up still counts if your arms got you back up. That one took my whole afternoon. I did not reach a conclusion and I am not finished.

None of these are insights, exactly. An insight changes what you do. These change nothing at all, and that is precisely why they stick. A useful fact gets filed and forgotten, while a useless one about crabs assuming we walk sideways rattles around your skull for a decade. Your brain is not sorting for importance, it is sorting for whatever refuses to sit still, and a crab has never once sat still.

What I like is that every one of these started with a person alone, not performing, just noticing. No audience, no lighting, no reason. Somebody was rinsing shampoo out of their hair and thought a complete original thought for the first time in weeks, and the very next impulse was to tell somebody. That is a good instinct. We are a species that cannot keep a small idea to ourselves, and I think that is the nicest thing about us.

The water is warm. The phone is dry. The thought arrives anyway.

If your afternoon is already ruined, we may as well finish the job. There is a shower thoughts collection for people whose brains will not settle, a random facts pile for the least important storage in your head, and an anxiety memes archive for anyone who has been overthinking since breakfast. Galleries, threads, dumps, all of it is waiting. Bring a towel.
