Tattoos are forever. That is the whole point of them. You are making a permanent alteration to your body that will follow you until the heat death of the universe or cremation, whichever comes first. So it is absolutely baffling when someone walks into a parlor and requests a hyper-realistic eye on their bicep. Why would you do that? It is a level of commitment to a bad idea that is frankly inspiring. You have to admire the artist who looked at the request and said, “Yes, I can make that frog on a unicycle look like a masterpiece.”
The tragedy of these questionable tattoos is that they are not poorly done. If they were scratchy prison tattoos, we could dismiss them. But these are high-definition monuments to awful taste. Someone sat in a chair for six hours while a stranger injected ink into their skin to create a permanent optical illusion of a wine bottle. It is madness. It is the visual equivalent of a beautifully sung opera about filing your taxes. The execution is flawless, but the concept is a crime against humanity.
