“That 90’s Show” is premiering after the holidays and I was not at all prepared for this

I feel like with the saturation of streaming networks like Netflix and the parade of shows they are constantly releasing these days, I am almost never actually up on the new stuff that is coming out. “Big” announcements seem to come and go without causing much of a stir. So you can imagine my surprise when I saw that just after the Xmas holidays, Netflix is releasing season one of “That ’90’s Show.”

"That '90's Show" premieres on Netflix on January 19th. Check out the trailer below before your bones turn to dust or whatever.

That’s right. APPARENTLY Netflix and the original creators of “That ’70’s Show” (Bonnie and Terry Turner) have conceived of, shot, edited, and are releasing a long awaited sequel to the beloved series on January 19th, 2022.

I had no idea.

If you are of an age with me, you’ll have super fond memories of the original “That ’70’s Show” from when you were a plucky YOUTH. I actually was just a casual viewer as a kid, but reconnected with it in a big way when it was packaged up again by Netflix four or five years ago. Upon watching it end to end as an older gent, honestly, it’s great. Full of heart, full of laughs, and all that good stuff.

I also have no idea how much of that this new reboot will offer.

You might also remember the ill-fated “That 80’s Show” that had an aborted 13 episode run back in 2002. Despite the inclusion of Glenn Howerton (of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” fame, audiences really had no time for this sequel. It could have used some of that Dennis sociopathy infused into it I guess. Either way, it went off with a fart and was cancelled pretty much immediately.

Honestly, with the memory of that still lingering I’m not sure how enthused I am for this new reboot. Here’s what I do know:

WE ARE OLD.

“That ’70’s Show” was set in 1970 and released in 1998. That’s a span of 28 years. presuming “That ’90’s Show” is set starting in 1990, and being released in 2023, that’s a span of 33 years. When I watched “That ’70’s Show” I really and truly thought we were getting a glimpse into ancient times. And I really don’t know how to feel about any of this.

Anyway. “That ’90’s Show” premieres on Netflix on January 19th. Check out the trailer below before your bones turn to dust or whatever.
