My Santa hat is a-jingling for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special

Sleigh bells and Santas, and Space Lasers, oh my.

Marvel and Disney have dropped a trailer and a little sneak peek at the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday special that is airing this year.

Check it out here:

I’m not embarrassed to admit that I am pretty stoked for this. There is something that has been lost in the streaming era when it comes to holiday specials. When you had to watch your shows weekly on TV, when a good holiday episode came out it would really help you get into the holiday spirit. They were scheduled at the right time, and you actually watched them during the holidays. Now you often find yourself watching random Xmas episodes in January when you start streaming a random show in the throes of your seasonal depression.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 2. was admittedly more of a disappointment than finding out that your roommate dusted the leftovers you were saving at the end of a long day. The unlikely heroes also didn’t play a particularly compelling part of the Infinity War/Endgame saga, we can all admit. So to be honest I personally have been waiting for some goof GOTG content since the first movie rocked all of our socks.

The jury is still out as to whether The Guardians of The Galaxy Holiday special will give that to us. But for now I am being cautiously optimistic. The inclusion of Kevin Bacon as seemingly a key plot point is definitely a most excellent use of a callback from the first movie. So there’s that.

Either way, we only have a few days to wait until we can judge for myself. Chris Pratt most eloquently described this special as having been “vomited from the brain of a mad genius.” Not sure if that’s really a positive or a negative but it’s intriguing at the very least.

The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special drops on November 25th  (which conveniently supports the recent trend of the “holidays” creeping further and further back into the fall).
