Hunter green and maroon- Iconic.
Oh my god, do you remember this? It was everywhere! You couldn’t walk into a house in 1996 without seeing a hunter green carpet and a maroon paisley border. It was sophisticated! It was classy! Or at least, that’s what we thought at the time. It was very “Ralph Lauren meets Olive Garden,” you know what I mean?
I had a blazer in these colors. My mother had a couch in these colors. It was like we all collectively decided that the sun was too bright and we needed to live inside a dark, moody library. But honestly? Looking back? It had a vibe. It was cozy. It was dramatic. It was a look!

The nostalgia is hitting me hard right now. The paisley borders! Why did we love borders so much? And the gold fixtures? We were really going for that “English Manor” look in our suburban split-levels.
It’s funny how trends cycle. This specific combo of hunter green and maroon feels so dated now, but at the same time, I kind of miss the boldness. Nowadays everything is beige and grey. Where is the flavor? Where is the drama? The 90s weren’t afraid of color, even if that color was exclusively “dried blood” and “forest floor.”
