Golf is the only hobby where I pay forty bucks to get yelled at by myself for four hours, and I already booked next Saturday. Fall is the best time to play, too, because the leaves hide your ball and nobody can prove you didn’t find it. My buddies trade golf memes all week to keep the dream alive between rounds. What gets me is the dignity of the guys who refuse to quit. Grown men crawling into bushes for a three-dollar ball. Four dudes on one cart in a monsoon because the round is paid for and nobody wants to be the first to say it. The best golf jokes don’t even need a punchline, just a witness and somebody too stubborn to take a drop.
Here’s the truth: nobody plays golf because they’re good at it. We play because it’s four hours outside with your friends where the worst thing that can happen is a bad number on a tiny pencil card. Then you hit one shot that feels perfect, and that one shot drags you back next week. The other ninety-six are why these memes exist.
