28 Recipe Complaints From People That Didn’t Even Read The Instructions

I’ll admit it—sometimes I like to get a little creative in the kitchen. But there’s a fine line between creativity and, well, absolute chaos. One time I swapped half the ingredients in a cookie recipe and then got mad when they tasted like a weird hybrid of bread and sadness. Turns out, recipes exist for a reason. And yet, some people make even worse decisions, but with the added bonus of leaving snarky reviews. These recipe complaints? They’re next-level infuriating. From people replacing key ingredients with wild substitutes to totally ignoring instructions, these reviews will make you wonder if humanity ever had a chance.

These photos capture 28 of the most baffling recipe complaints from people who decided to take some serious liberties with their cooking. From those who swapped sugar for salt and wondered why their cake tasted like a science experiment gone wrong, to the ones who ignored all proportions and ended up with soup instead of stew, this collection showcases the wildest recipe fails. Each review reflects a mix of audacity and cluelessness, where people complained about recipes they didn’t even follow. The images take you through the absurdity of ignoring cooking instructions, and the results are both hilarious and infuriating. This is culinary rebellion at its worst.

Did not turn out like the picture showed. The whole sheet of cookies melted in the oven into one huge rectangular cookie. Used the exact proportions given except I used rice flour and egg replacer.
I can't stand thousand Island dressing on my Rueben. I use mayo. This is how my mother made them. I was once told by a cook at a diner that that is how the Irish make them. Don't know if its true. I also wrap them in foil and bake them in the oven.
DISGUSTING! I ran out of orange juice so l used orange soda instead. Way too sweet for Bob
Sorry but I tried this and it was awful. It was dry and the flavor, even if it wasn't dry, was not good. A lot of the flavor issue could have been attributable to the sausage I chose - I did use Italian sausage - and didn't vary from the recipe. It was disappointing - hardly anyone (group of about 17 tried it and I ended up dumping about 7/8 of the pan. I wanted to try to salvage but knew I was kidding myself about anyone eating the leftovers. Sorry! Just being honest.
I made this tonight. Didn't have Dry Sherry and someone said to substitute with Apple Cider Vinegar - which I did. The final taste was way too full of a vinegar taste which I didn't like at all. The concept of this meal is definitely good but don't use vinegar as a substitute. The balsamic vinegar may have added to the bad taste at the end too. Not sure I would use this recipe again without all the original recipe ingredients.
TOO MUCH SUGAR!!! I made it without any sugar. Theres plenty in the fruit alone. Why give everyone diabetes. My sponge was flat and the cake had no taste. And the icing was slop.
I first tried it with water, not very good that way, milk made all the difference
Way way way too lemony and not good at all. I don't understand why people are leaving 5 star reviews. I have the worst heartburn from all the lemon and the recipe made my kitchen a huge mess. I got so frustrated I yelled at my boyfriend for no reason. 1 Star.
