Look, I love the game of baseball, but let us be honest, the cards from the eighties were a bit dry. That is why I am so appreciative of these baseball card vandals. They take a perfectly boring piece of cardboard and turn it into a high concept comedy routine with nothing but a Sharpie and a dream. We have players carrying dryers and others singing Tori Amos lyrics. It is out of left field, it is nonsensical, and it is exactly my speed.

I am looking at the Yankees pitcher literally carrying a large dryer and I am thinking that is a much better workout than a bullpen session. This collection of modified sports cards is a celebration of the vandalism that actually improves the product. We have musical mashups that make no sense but somehow work perfectly. Why is this player singing Linger by The Cranberries? I do not know, but it feels right. These funny baseball cards are a tribute to the 90s television era, featuring Saved by the Bell casting drama and unrequited love for Laura Dern. It is a level of niche pop culture that you just do not see in the official league merchandise. We are seeing literal visual gags like a pitcher named Blenderson holding a green smoothie. It is simple, it is effective, and it would make any middle schooler proud. I especially love the Dodgers team card renamed A Bunch of Dudes. It is the most accurate description of a baseball roster I have ever heard. These Sharpie masterpieces are the real reason I still keep a collection in my attic. We are looking at a player transformed into Tori Amos at a grand piano and honestly, the fit is impeccable. It is the satirical sports fan dream to see the Hall of Fame replaced by a gallery of comedic timing and felt tip markers.

The Just Farted cloud on the Milwaukee Brewers card is a classic move that never fails to get a laugh. It is the simplest joke in the kit, but sometimes that is all you need to win the inning. These baseball card vandals are the true geniuses of the hobby, taking worthless common cards and turning them into viral gold. Whether it is Ron the Bald Guy or song lyrics written across a jersey, the creativity is inspiring. We laugh at these cards because they subvert the seriousness of professional sports. They remind us that at the end of the day, it is just a game played by men in tight pants who occasionally look like they are in a Genesis music video. I hope these vandals never stop their work because the world needs more players who can’t dance but can definitely handle a Sharpie. It is a home run for the absurd and a grand slam for the bored collector.

If these cards didn’t make you want to go find your old binder, you should check out some funny sports fails, classic movie parodies, or maybe some creative doodle art. There is plenty of room for humor in the world of athletics if you just look closer at the cardboard. Just try to keep your Sharpies away from any actual valuable rookie cards if you want to keep your dignity.
