Dumb people doing dumb things

It’s a dirty job, but someone has to point out when you’re about to lose a finger. I’ve seen some things in my time. I’ve seen people climb into sewers. I’ve seen people wrestle alligators. But nothing scares me more than a guy with a chainsaw cutting a hole in the ice while he is standing in the middle of it. That isn’t bravery. That’s just a fundamental misunderstanding of gravity.

These photos of dumb people doing dumb things are a testament to human optimism. You have a guy taping a jet engine. Tape. On a jet engine. That’s the kind of “can-do” attitude that gets you on the no-fly list. And the painter who painted himself into a corner? That’s a classic. It’s poetry. It’s a visual representation of poor planning. We like to think we’re the smartest species on the planet, but then you see a truck wedged between two buildings and you have to wonder.

Safety regulations exist for a reason, but apparently, nobody told these people. We have collected the most baffling, dangerous, and hilarious examples of logistical failures and questionable engineering from around the world.

Man using a chainsaw to cut a square in lake ice while standing inside the square.
Worker at a car dealership who has accidentally painted the concrete floor into a corner.
Two people attempting to fit a massive couch into the back of a small SUV.
Large blue Argos delivery truck wedged tightly between two old brick buildings on a narrow street.
Police cruiser stuck deep in freshly poured wet cement on a highway construction site.
Airport technician using silver duct tape to repair the outer casing of a jet engine.
White pickup truck at a gas station dangerously overloaded with an entire household of furniture.
A "Strictly No Access" gate standing alone on a path with no connecting fence.
Social media post claiming a penny shrinks in the microwave with a reply about a fire.
Hand holding a power drill with a whisk attachment to scramble eggs in a plastic cup.

The drill whisk is actually kind of clever, in a “this might explode” sort of way. But the police car in the wet cement? That is justice served cold and hard. It is a reminder that the laws of physics apply to everyone, even if you have a siren. Please, for the love of safety, measure your truck before you drive down a medieval alleyway.

If you are glad you aren’t the one in these photos, keep the safety goggles on. We suggest checking out construction fails, funny accidents, and bad idea memes for more cautionary tales.
